美國在台協會副處長傅德恩 (Robert Forden) 及環保署署長李應元今早參加在國立中央大學所設立的「環境監測技術聯合中心」的啟動儀式。外交部的代表及中央大學、美國太空總署、美國海洋與大氣總署、美國環保署的專家學者和其他的國際夥伴，也共襄盛舉參加了大氣汞監測國際科學研討會。在台灣、美國及其他的國際夥伴長達十年的合作下，環境監測技術聯合中心的設立有助於進一步掌握亞太地區空氣品質與汞污染的情況。美國在台協會期待透過台灣的國際環境夥伴計畫(IEP)所贊助的亞太地區汞監測網絡，持續拓展這些合作。恭喜台灣行政院環保署及國立中央大學成立環境監測技術聯合中心，為改善亞太地區空氣品質帶來重要的貢獻。#AirPollution #Minamata
AIT Deputy Director Robert Forden joined Taiwan EPA Minister Lee Ying-yuan at the launch of the Center for Environmental Monitoring and Technology this morning at National Central University. Representatives from Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and experts from NCU, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and other international partners were also in attendance to participate in international scientific workshops on atmospheric and mercury monitoring. The new center will build on Taiwan’s decade-long collaboration with U.S. and other international partners to better understand the Asia Pacific region’s air quality and mercury pollution patterns. AIT is looking forward to expanding these efforts through the Asia-Pacific Mercury Monitoring Network under Taiwan EPA’s International Environmental Partnership. Congratulations to Taiwan EPA and NCU for the new center and for Taiwan’s important contributions to improving air quality in the region.
